History Circle Tour
From Maine to Nova Scotia, on to New Brunswick and back to Maine, be pampered at two of Canada's finest East Coast hotels, while you trace the beginning of European settlement in North America. Visit a series of historic and cultural sites, including U.S. National Park Service and Parks Canada sites, which tell the story of historic Acadia (Maine and Eastern Canada), from 1604 to today.
Meet park rangers and costumed interpreters. Stroll interpretive trails and marvel at larger-than-life bronze statues of French settlers and members of the Passamaquoddy tribe. Visit the reconstruction of a 1605 fur-trading post and settlement, one of the earliest in North America. Wander through Canada's most attacked fort. Enjoy unique shops, and artists' studios and galleries in the towns of Annapolis Royal and St. Andrews—two favorite stopping places for East Coast travelers. Both towns also contain a great number of preserved historic homes adding to their old world charm.
While this self-drive itinerary encompasses a relatively large area (two countries, two provinces, and one state), the combination of two ferry rides and short drives contributes to a relaxing pace.
